What can I do about painful periods?

Period pain can range from negligible to debilitating. If you’re unlucky enough to struggle with the latter, here are a few things you can try:

  • Heat pads on your abdomen

  • For bloating and cramping, Midol may be most helpful

  • For severe pain, naproxen sodium or ibuprofen may be most helpful

  • Doctors can provide prescription-strength naproxen and ibuprofen if needed

  • Birth control, which not only reduces cramps but can be used to give you fewer and/or shorter periods
