Why are my boobs sore?
For starters, breasts are tissue and have nerves! Like any other part of your external body, they can hurt if direct force is applied. However, there are a few other things that can cause breasts to ache and be sore on their own.
First, puberty. As breasts grow and develop, they are sensitive to the fluctuations in the hormones estrogen and progesterone. This can cause sore breasts.
Second, periods. The same hormones (estrogen and progesterone) are fluctuating with your period. Furthermore, if bloating (or holding extra fluid in your body) is a problem during your period, your breasts may also hold some extra fluid and cause breast soreness.
Lastly, birth control (and any changes in it). Combination birth control pills that contain types of estrogen and progesterone can, you guessed it, cause sore breasts. But stopping your birth control can also cause breast tenderness, at least at first. This is because your ovaries are producing estrogen again, impacting the breast tissue and causing aches.
