My breasts are sore and I’m not on my period. Am I pregnant?

There are many layers to this question, but here are the main causes of sore breasts in a young person:

  • First, it is very common for breasts to be sore during puberty (whether you have male or female anatomy). This is because the hormone signaling is going crazy in your body and can cause some aches and pains as breast tissue grows and stretches.

  • Second, you may experience sore breasts around the time of your period. Once again, hormone fluctuations are the main cause, but it’s very normal.

  • Third, pregnancy. If you’ve had sex and have missed a period, it’s worth checking a pregnancy test. Sore breasts can be an early (and late) sign of pregnancy.
