Is it normal to skip a period after I stop birth control?

Depending on the type of birth control you are stopping, your period may take some time to return to “normal.” And that’s okay! The birth control method that tends to have the longest “recovery” period is Depo, but pills and Nexplanon can also take a month or two to bounce back from. The form that has the least impact on periods (generally speaking) is the IUD.

If you’re worried that it’s taking too long for your period to return to normal, chat with your doc. But don’t panic! There’s nothing to be super worried about—it’s just because your hormones are taking some time getting up and running again.
