How do I know if I’ve started puberty (for a girl)?
Puberty for most females proceeds in a predictable manner. It can start as early as 8 but as late as 14, so if you’re somewhere in the middle—that’s okay!
The first thing to start is breast buds (or a slight elevation in your breast tissue). Thereafter you’ll probably notice more body hair (especially in your private area). About a year or two into puberty you might notice some extra clear-white vaginal discharge called physiologic leukorrhea. This is totally normal and is a sign that your period is likely coming in the next 6-12 months.
So if your period is fashionably late but you’ve noticed other parts of puberty starting, you’re likely totally fine! And if you’re concerned, it’s perfectly fine to discuss with a doctor.
