How can I get rid of herpes?

Herpes is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). Like other viruses, there is not a complete cure. However, there are things that you can do to suppress a flare-up. If you have been diagnosed with genital herpes, talk with your doctor about these options. Medication might be an option if you have multiple flares throughout the year.

Herpes presents like small ulcers in your genital area and affects all genders. These ulcers can be very tender. They can also cause the lymph nodes in your genital to swell and become tender. When you have a flare you might have a slight fever and feel generally unwell. A doctor needs to make the diagnosis when you are having a flare because they need to take a skin sample from the lesion. Left alone, a herpes flare will resolve on its own, but doctors can give medicine to make it better quicker.
