At what point should an adolescent or young adult transition from a pediatrician to a general PCP?

Great question! Most pediatricians will see a patient through 19 (or even through college as needed). One big change will be the frequency of visits when you are in your 20s. As long as you are well and don’t have any concerns, yearly checkups aren’t typically recommended. You can discuss your own personal needs and expectations with your new doc and set your own schedule. For a young woman, depending on the scope of practice of your primary care physician, it would also be a good idea to establish with an OB/gyn in your 20s. I hope this helps!
