My vagina is super itchy but I don’t have any discharge. What is this?
Mild and intermittent itching can be normal with a vagina, but excessive itching is abnormal. There are a few things that can cause the vaginal mucosa to itch. They include yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis (BV), excessive washing (causing changes in pH and good microbes) and irritation (for example, a reaction to a latex condom). A doctor can assist with testing for yeast or BV. Proper washing of the vulva (the area around the vaginal opening) can involve a daily wash with gentle soap and warm water, but you should never wash INSIDE of the vagina. That can cause worsening irritation, so if you are doing this try to stop and see if the itching resolves. If you seem to be reacting to latex condoms, try a polyurethane condom next time to see if you notice an improvement.
